Different values of Work: title of work that are in the same language

• If there are different values of Work: title of work, record a value of Work: title of work that appears most frequently in manifestations that embody a work.
• If there is no value of Work: title of work that appears most frequently, record a value of Work: title of work that appears in the first manifestation that embodies a work.
• If there is no value of Work: title of work that appears most frequently and the first manifestation that embodies a work cannot be determined, record a value of Work: title of work that appears in the first manifestation received by NLNZ.

Values of work: title of work that are in more than one language

• If a value of Work: title of work appears in more than one language in sources of information, prefer a value that appears in:
  • a manifestation of an expression of the work in the original language, or
  • an external source.
• However, if the sequence, layout, or typography of the titles on the source of information or evidence from other sources suggests another value was intended by a creator or contributor agent as the preferred value, instead choose this value as a Work: preferred title of work.

Single laws: Choose, in this order of preference:

1. The official short title or citation title
2. An unofficial short title or citation title used in legal literature
3. The official long title
4. A value that appears in manifestations that embody the work

Apply only if the value appears in a manifestation of an expression of the work in the original language. Prefer the value that appears most frequently in manifestations described in the NLNZ catalogue.

If the most frequent value does not appear in a manifestation of an expression of the work in the original language, instead record a value in the original language that appears in:

• a manifestation embodying the work, or
• a reference source.
