LAC Policy Statements for preferred title of work

LAC practice: Cataloguer's judgement. If applying the option, use the criteria given in this section to decide what is the preferred title of a representative expression.

LAC practice: Apply the option third to works created after 1500.

Preferred titles of work that are created before 1501

Classical or Byzantine Greek works

Condition Option

LAC practice: Apply the option first. The preferred language is English when the language of description is English, and it is French when the language of description is French.

Titles of works that are not found in an original language or is not applicable

Titles of works that are found in a non-preferred script

LAC practice: Apply the option for anonymous works created before 1501 and written neither in Greek nor in the Latin alphabet. If there is one, choose as the preferred title an established title in English when the language of description is English, and in French when the language of description is French.
